shifting the paradigm?

howdy, people. happy 2009 to each and every both of you that may still happen to get the RSS feed or stumble upon radiohypno.com accidentally. needless to say, 4 posts in the calendar year of 2008 A.D. does not an interesting blog make. this does not mean, however, that i had nothing to say on the topic of music during the year. it just means that i was really terrible about producing product and/or putting thoughts down on virtual-paper.

let me give you a little background in order to make some sense of what i want to do moving forward. the entire idea for radiohypno started in early 2005 when i was functionally unemployed, and had little to fill my evenings after scouring the job-search sites. a plethora of free time, a lack of dj’ing work and a newly acquired DSL line conspired to good effect. i had fun putting the shows together, and passing them out like mix tapes. i got great encouragement from the few friends who heard the original shows. i had great and grand plans, and registered the domain name, got this snazzy looking wordpress thing together, and then….

a new day job came along. then i started working friday nights. then saturday nights. then a different day job. then i picked up thursday, friday, AND saturday night dj work.

i’m not saying this because i want to give the impression that i am some sort of insane workaholic or for any other self-aggrandizing idea. my point is that the show was the product of having the time to sit and dream and create what i thought was “the perfect radio show” to my ears.

it saddens me to admit to the realization that i just don’t have the time in my day to dream and create like that any longer. i feel like there’s still creative juice in there that needs to manifest itself in ways other than rocking the 80’s music three nights a week. the quandry is…how do i still tap into my id and unleash it here with the schedule i keep?

i WANT to do more, but i can’t commit to doing more because:
1) i need to spend time with the wife and other people who matter,
2) i need at least one day a week where i step away from the computer/music, or risk complete meltdowns (it’s happened before)
3) in the time that i’ve been away from doing shows, the intertubes eclipsed what i had started back then and now everyone and their lolcat has a music blog.

so…i’m going to try a weak attempt at a new year’s resolution and commit to, at least in the short term, posting SOMETHING music-related here once a week. i’ll try syndicating it on my facebook page, and see if that garners any new interest. maybe starting small (by just posting SOMETHING) and working my way back up will be my answer.

so this is the official announcement that i’m recommitting to radiohypno.com, but in a different and hopefully exciting way. stay tuned. hopefully, good things are afoot.

ok, kids. looks like the glitches are ironed out. we’re coming back in some capacity or other.

yep. that’s Daryl Hall from 80’s hit machine Hall & Oates. and that’s 00’s uber-hipster electrofunk duo Chromeo. now, some of you are chuckling quietly to yourselves and silently judging me. but i don’t care. when “i can’t go for that (no can do)” comes on, you can’t help but feel that drum machine and bassline. pure. funk.

and these guys are trying to do something different. less commercial crap. more good music. real musicians.

count zer0 and hypnotyza present: universal serial beats volume 1

it’s been far too long since an official radiohypno has graced the intertubes, and i do apologize for that. life often throws curve balls at which one is not always ready to swing, and sometimes, the ball just hits you. such has been the past few months. but no complaints,no excuses. so it goes. you’re here for the music, and we shallprovide.

this installment is not an episode of radiohypno, but a special release in conjunction with dj count zer0, currently operating out of new york city. we have performed together a couple times, and havebeen close friends for years, but this is the first joint project we’ve worked on for general release to the public.

taking cues from our shared affinity for all things falling on the soulful side of house and techno, we’ve assembled two mixes by two djs with a common theme. it’s not a tag team, but we had a lot of input on each other’s track selection (i got shot down on a couple…[shakes fist]) and even contributed unreleased music and edits for the other to work with. We had one goal, a singular artistic statement: we want you to move to this.

special thanks go to Shawn Rudiman for contributing an unreleased track to Frank’s half of the mix.
